Marlin Hendrick Brown, Sr. of St. Charles Marlin Hendrick Brown, Sr., age, 90, formerly of Tucson, AZ and Homer, IL, passed away peacefully at his home with family at his side, on Friday, February 22, 2013. Marlin was born in McComb, MS on March 20, 1922. He was the son of the late Jacob E. "Ed" and Mary Elizabeth (O'Daniel) Brown. He grew up on a farm in Big Spring, TX. On March 10, 1961 he married "the love of his life", Dorothy Lou (Wallace). For most of his professional career, Marlin worked as a Motor Vehicle Engineer for Sinclair Gasoline and later, Atlantic Richfield Oil Company (ARCO). Together, they raised their children in Niles, IL, transferring to Ambler, PA, Batavia, IL and Medford, NJ. In 1983 at age 62, Marlin & Dorothy retired to their farm in Homer, IL. Marlin got his private pilot's license, bought a plane, built a hangar and a runway on his "Field of Dreams". In his second career, he enjoyed plowing the fields and planting corn and soybeans. Marlin was a very proud United States Navy Veteran, having served during W.W. II, mostly in the Pacific Theater. Marlin was a member of the Lions Club International and was a Master Mason for 53 years of the A.F. & A.M. Homer, IL Lodge # 199. He enjoyed his children, grandchildren, friends, farming, flying his airplane, and traveling. Survivors include his beloved wife of 51 years, Dorothy, their children: Donna (Carl) Puterbaugh, Marlin Brown, Jr., Ryan (Sheryl) Roessler, Raina (Danne) Willoughby and Holly (Mark) NcNeill. Marlin is also survived by his grandchildren: Robert (Chris) Puterbaugh-Perris and Danielle Puterbaugh, Autumn, Sahara and Daniel Willoughby, Devin and Griffin Roessler and Mary McNeill. Other survivors include: his brother, Roger (Anna Mae) Brown, his sister, Juanita Battenfield and sister, Mildred (Calvin) Clark, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. In addition to his parents, Marlin was preceded in death by his youngest brother and sister-in-law, Wendell (Janet) Brown, his brother-in-law, Horace Battenfield and his oldest brother and sister-in-law, J.E. Jacob Edward (Geraldine) Brown. A Memorial Service, celebrating Marlin's life, will be held on Saturday, March 16, 2013 at 2:30 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church of West Dundee. The Rev. Steve Mindrup will officiate. The Brown family will be receiving friends at the church from 1:30 p.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Transitions Hospice, 12040 Raymond Ct., Huntley, IL 60142 or First United Methodist Church, 318 W. Main St., West Dundee, IL 60118. A private burial at the Homer G.A.R. Cemetery in Homer, IL will take place at a later date. The Miller Funeral Home of West Dundee is assisting the family.
